The British Association Of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) defines counselling as a talking therapy 'delivered by trained practitioners who work with people over a short or long term to help them bring about effective change or enhance their wellbeing.'
Counselling offers a place where you can talk without feeling judged, have your view of life events heard and understood and experience acceptance for who you are.............a place where you can be yourself. It might be that you've lost touch with who that person is and want to re-evaluate where you are in life or that things just feel too overwhelming to deal with. Talking to a qualified counsellor can provide you with an increased understanding of the choices you make, clarification of your current situation, insight into your emotions and an opportunity to achieve wholeness, healing and personal growth.
My therapy is Integrated Humanistic which incorporates Person-Centred counselling, Existential and Gestalt. I encourage clients to be more self accepting and facilitate awareness, insight and change whilst recognising the individual's innate inner resources for self healing. We are all unique and I am committed towards understanding clients' individual perceptions and ways of viewing the world.
I think it is part of human nature to search for meaning in life and an understanding of experiences can help with that search. Counselling can be part of a process which explores life in a genuine and meaningful way. By experiencing a genuine therapeutic relationship it is possible to become more aware of emotions which results in a greater control over life and increased wellbeing.
